MLB players and WWII
More than 500 major league players stopped playing baseball and traded in their jerseys for service uniforms during WWII. There were many players absent from the field between 1942 and 1945. Players who joined the service, but were baseball stars like DiMaggio and Musial were kept from the front line service. Big time stars would play "service ball" to entertain troops before they would head off into service. If you were however a minor league player or not well known you would head into combat. Goes to show you that everyone tried to pitch in (Pun intended) during WWII.

Great post! I like how you related the MLB, it made it more interesting!
ReplyDeleteHaha great pun! This information is really great i think that all of these players must have had a hard time adjusting to the different playing fields. Thanks to all of those who placed their efforts in helping serve our country. Really liked this because I love baseball, I bet they were dying to run home though (Pun Intended)
