Pearl Harbor
This is an image of the result of when Pearl Harbor was attacked.

This image shows the fear that the attack of Pearl Harbor caused. It was such a surprise attack that killed many innocent people. This has been a day that no one can ever forget, it has touched too many lives. This image is so vivid and allows us to see what was going on, on that horrific day without even being there.

Peabody Historical Farm Museum
This is the Peabody Historical Fire Museum. Built in 1875, the building was home to the Peabody Engine Company No. 3 and exhibits rare firefighting artifacts from both Peabody and from Northshore. It was originally built on Endicott Street in Peabody, but was relocated to Brooksby Farm in another part of Peabody. Here, it is open to guests, especially from fire-related organizations, free of charge.

Hospital Point Lighthouse
The Beverly Hospital Point Lighthouse was a lighthouse that my girlfriend showed me a few weeks ago. It was built in 1872 and got its name for a smallpox hospital that was built on site. It was also more rexently used to guide vessels toward Salem Harbor.

JFK's Grave
This was a picture I took back a few years ago when I was at the Arlington Cemetery. This is John F. Kenedy's grave. The fire that you see lit is the Eternal Flame which was thought out by his widowed First Lady, Jacqueline Kennedy. She was inspired by the Eternal Flame at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Paris, which they both visited in 1961.

The Northshore Mall
The Northshore mall opened in Peabody in 1958 is one of our region's largest malls. It attracts people from all over the region and is booming since it is Peabody's largest taxpayer. It was originally planned to be put in Beverly, and was also the first mall to have a chapel built in it (the
St. Therese Society of Mt. Carmel Chapel).

9/11 Memorial: Ground Zero
This was a picture of my sister at the 9/11 memorial, or Ground Zero, in New York City a few years back. The part of the 9/11 memorial in this picture consists of one of the two sites where the towers once stood. It is a giant waterfall and reflecting pool set within the footprints of the original towers. On the boarder of it are all of the 3,000 or so names of the victims of both attacks in 1993 and 2001. At night, a light shines through the names so that people can still read them in the dark.

Alcatraz
This is a photo of Alcatraz when I was in San Francisco a few years back. Alcatraz was a prison built in 1868 and notorious for holding the worst criminals of all time such as Machine Gun Kelley and Al Capone. It was also known to be near impossible to escape because it was it's own island and the nearest shore was about 1.5 miles away. However the water was freezing, and that's a long swim! Now its a touring sight and is actually believed to be haunted.

THE THUMB TACK!
Anyways, one of the very useful inventions that we all love (and hate) is the thumb tack invented by Edwin Moore. I'm sure he wasn't thinking of the pain we would feel after stepping on one of these bad boys. None the less, In 1900 he patented his design for the thumb tack describing it as a pin with a handle. Later, in 1904, Johann Kirsten patented the flat head version of a thumb tack.
It is remarkable how something so small and seemingly insignificant has found its way to the top. I bet even President Obama has some of these laying around somewhere. We can find them in our homes, offices, desks, bulletin boards, and sometimes kitchen floors -_-
It sometimes takes a little pain to trigger our appreciation for things. I'm just happy for who ever invented the thumb tack case.
Keep your eyes open for its A-ttack!

Boston World War II memorial
This is another picture of a World War II memorial located in Boston. The World War II Memorial commemorates the sacrifice of the three thousand women and men of Boston who lost their lives in the war. A tall shaft, with an eternal light at its top, dominates the monument. Standing in front of the shaft is a monumental bronze winged female figure representing Victory. She holds in her outstretched hands a sheathed sword, symbolizing the end of war, and an olive branch, symbolizing peace. The tall granite ellipse behind the shaft carries bronze plaques bearing the names of the war dead.

MLB players and WWII
More than 500 major league players stopped playing baseball and traded in their jerseys for service uniforms during WWII. There were many players absent from the field between 1942 and 1945. Players who joined the service, but were baseball stars like DiMaggio and Musial were kept from the front line service. Big time stars would play "service ball" to entertain troops before they would head off into service. If you were however a minor league player or not well known you would head into combat. Goes to show you that everyone tried to pitch in (Pun intended) during WWII.

Big bank during WWII
Many big banks supported Nazis during WWII and refused to release hundreds of frozen Jewish bank accounts in Paris. In 1998 Barclays Bank paid 3.6 million dollars to Jews whose assets were seized fro Paris banks during WWII. Chase bank In Manhattan seized over 100 accounts held by Jews in the Paris branch during WWII. Unclassified reports about Chase activities indicate that Chase bank worked in closely with the German authorities in freezing Jewish assets. A French Government commission investigated the seizure of Jewish accounts and found that FIVE American banks had helped Nazis during World War II. Chase Manhattan, J.P. Morgan, Guaranty Trust Co, Bank of the City of New York and American Express. Goes to show you that big banks can't be trusted and to bail out banks versus the citizens of this country was ridiculous.
