Chpt. 20 - "Hollywood films now dominated the world movie market" (p.762)

Chpt. 20: A New Society - Somerville Theatre

Above is a picture of the Somerville Theatre which was built in the year 1914 and the theatre is still playing movies today.  I had been there once before and had gotten the thought that the theatre was old-fashioned.  The theater is located in a lively night area in Davis Square.

When it was first built it had rooms for stage shows, even opera, and of course motion pictures along with a basement café, bowling, and a billiards hall. It had gotten modernized over the years eliminating the billiard hall, bowling, and the café.  What I had found interesting was that the Somerville Theatre also host concerts including U2 in 2002 and others.

  1. Good blog. I like old-fashioned buildings and like the neon signs. There's a movie theatre like that one located in Beverly, Massachusetts.

  2. Interesting piece of theater history looks very old on the outside I'm curious to see the inside sometimes see if it has a more modern feel to it.
