Soldiers and Sailors monument - wakefield

This is a picture of the Soldiers and Sailors monument that is located by lake Quannopowitt in Wakefield. This monument was placed here in 1902 and was dedicated to the memory of the men who fought and died in the Civil War, but, in the four figures (naval, infantry, artillery and cavalry) surrounding the column, it has come to symbolize the generations of men and women from this town who have served their country in the armed services. The monument lists the battles in which Wakefield soldiers participated: New Berne, Malvern Hill, Chancellorsville, Weldon Railroad, Fort Fisher, Charleston, Brandy Station, Resaca, Appomattox, Andersonville, Bull Run, Balls Bluff, Fredericksburg, Wilderness, Petersburg, Antietam, Port Hudson, Aldie, Gettysburg,
